Hon'ble Thiru. Justice S. Baskaran

Native of Thiruthuraipoondi in Tiruvarur District. He was born at Mannargudi in the same District on 16.11.1956. Did his schooling at Findlay Higher Secondary School, Mannargudi. Completed his PUC at Bishop Heber College, Trichy and Graduation in Economics at National College, Trichy. He did his Law Course at Government Law College, Pondicherry. Enrolled himself in the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu on 04.02.1981.

He was attached with Advocate Mr.V.R.Biksheswaran for eight years and practiced in Madras High Court and City Civil Court, Chennai, till he entered Judicial service at District Munsif in 1988. He served in various stations and got promoted as District Judge in March, 2001. Among other stations, he served as Principal District & Sessions Judge at Kancheepuram, Coimbatore, and Salem. Also served as Presiding Officer, Labour Court; Judge, CBI, TADA and NDPS Courts and delivered landmark judgments. He was the Chief Judge, Court of Small Causes, Chennai, and finally served as Registrar (Judicial) in the Chartered Madras High Court before elevation. He has also held the posts with administrative responsibilities and conducted several legal camps in Districts he served to his credit.

He was the member of Tamil Nadu Judicial Officers' Association and held the posts of Treasurer, Secretary and President at various points of time. He also took up responsibilities with the Association and worked towards the welfare of fellow Officers. As Secretary of the Association, he mooted the idea of having a consolidated contact list of all serving Judicial Offices in Tamil Nadu cadre and the result of this idea was the launch of the first ever Judicial Officer's Directory. This soon went on to be replicated in other States as well. As President of the Association, he organized South India Judicial Officers Conference and it served as a platform for Officers from the four southern States of India to come together, share knowledge and discuss common issues faced by them.

His late father V.Samiappa was a Judicial Officer in the District Judiciary and his mother is a home maker. His family consist of his wife, who is a home maker and two daughters, who are Engineers and working in MNC. In school and college days, he represented the teams of Basket Ball, Hockey and Tennis.

HOBBIES: Trekking, Wildlife activities, Reading and Travelling.
